Expanded SOA sample problems

January 13th, 2009

The SOA has slowly been increasing the number of available sample problems. They made a new update on January 6, increasing the number of problems to 140. See here for the questions and solutions for the new versions.

For problem A.4.8, the answer says there are 3 cases:
    1) All bad drivers
    2) 1 good driver, 3 bad drivers
    3) 2 moderate drivers, 2 bad drivers

But what about 1 moderate driver and 3 bad drivers? This also has “at least 3 more bad drivers than good driver”.

On closer inspection, I see that my case 2 is 1/2 of the solutions case 2. Low and moderate risk are considered together. This makes it a binomial result, otherwise it would have required a multinomial.

    Hi Dave,
Would you say that you have used most or all of the SOA sample problems in your lessons and solutions or is it still worth taking the time to go through them separately? Thanks.

Yes, I think I’m only missing 3 or 4 of them.
