May 27th, 2016 Comments off

Hi everyone,

The CAS has now posted the new GLM text that will be on the exam 8 syllabus this sitting.  The new text can be found here: http://www.casact.org/pubs/monographs/papers/05-Goldburd-Khare-Tevet.pdf

I will now begin working on the new TIA material for this section.  I hope to have it ready by mid to late June.

Thanks,

Josh

Hi everyone,

I just wanted to share that The Infinite Actuary now has a free Android app available in the Google Play Store.  This is in addition to the existing app available for Apple devices on iTunes.  The apps allow you to watch videos on your mobile device, including the ability to download videos for offline viewing.  Simply sign in with your TIA username and password, and you’re ready to go.

Android app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tia.android.theinfiniteactuary

iPhone app: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/the-infinite-actuary/id1004691026?ls=1&mt=8

Thanks,

Updated suggested reading schedule

May 23rd, 2016 Comments off

Hi everyone,

Since the new GLM paper has yet to be released, I’ve decided to revise the study schedule to put the GLM paper at the end.  I also took down the old Anderson paper section that was on the prior syllabus.  I will replace it with the new GLM material when that is complete (sometime after the new paper is available).

Thanks,

Josh

New Exam 8 Syllabus released

May 18th, 2016 Comments off

Hi everyone,

The CAS has just posted the new exam 8 syllabus for the Fall 2016 sitting.  The content changes from last sitting are the replacement of the GLM paper with a new one and an updated version of the errata for the Grossi text.  While the new GLM paper is not yet available, it is worth noting that the GLM material now is worth 10-15 percent of the points on the exam instead of the previous 5-10 percent.  Also, considering the syllabus mentions that 8 chapters of the new GLM text are on the syllabus, it is likely to be a longer read compared to the prior GLM text, and so your study plans should be adjusted accordingly.

Once the new GLM paper is published, I will update the GLM section of the TIA seminar.

Thanks,

Josh
