Consolidated detailed study manual PDF – Take 2

The table of contents Section labels were incorrect for Sections D and E in the first version of the consolidated detailed study manual PDF. This has been fixed.

There was a similar ordering problem in the condensed outline, and this has been fixed as well. The zip file containing the condensed outline in the Supplementary Materials section has its own “revision history” file detailing any changes made by date.

Consolidated version of detailed study manual

By request, I just added a consolidated version of the detailed study manual that puts all sections into a single (large) PDF file. You can find it in the detailed study manual section of the online seminar where the individual sections are posted.

Note that the content is the same as the individually posted PDFs. The consolidated version just puts everything into a single PDF with one big ole table of contents.

If you’ve already printed the individual files and are happy with those, there is absolutely no reason to touch this new one. Just whatever floats your PDF boat. . . 🙂

Email and forum response times

Just a reminder that in most cases I’m able to respond to email and forum questions in less than 48 hours. Sometimes if you send a question late in the day on Friday, I may not be able to get to until Monday.

In any event, you are always welcome to send me a follow-up email if you don’t hear from me in an unreasonable amount of time. Occasionally my reply might be stuck in your spam folder (please check!), and in very rare cases I may just inadvertently miss an email.  So please always feel free to follow up! 🙂

During the final 4 weeks before the exam (month of October), I do my best to respond 7-days a week because I know you need answers quickly.

Breakdown of past SOA exam questions

As a reminder, you’ll find a breakdown of past relevant SOA exam questions on the SOA Exams tab of the online seminar. Look under Solutions to Published Exams > Analysis of Past Exams. I’ve included questions dating back to the year 2000—covering 8I, DP-U, DP-C, and even a few from CSP-C.

You’ll find versions in both PDF and spreadsheet format. The video and PDF handout each have more details about using the past exams to prepare for your exam.

If you had downloaded these files before today, you’ll want to re-download them. I updated the files to indicate which questions are no longer relevant based on syllabus material dropped after spring 2014, and I also added a breakdown of the spring 2014 exam.

Also, note that some of the spring 2014 model solutions posted by the SOA show the old study note codes (ILA-Dxxx) that existed before the last exam system conversion, but the breakdown that I’ve posted shows the current study note codes (LP-yyy) to make it easier to link the questions to current syllabus sources and online seminar materials.

New flash card format

By request, I decided to revise the format of the LP flash cards available in the Supplementary Matierals section of the online seminar.

The new set follows the seminar order exactly (whereas the older set was more randomized).

The new set is available in two formats:

  1. “Singles” version – This version has a table of contents (aka “bookmarks”) that shows the hierarchy in the sidebar of your PDF viewer. You can quickly click on any section or reading to go straight there. Each PDF page has exactly one card front or back in succession.
  2. “FrontBack” version – This PDF has 3 cards per page and replaces the older 6-card-per-page version. This format is well suited for printing.

In the downloaded zip file, you will find a “read me” file with more information and instructions, including instructions for how to print the FrontBack version. I also included a link to card stock on Amazon that works well with the FrontBack version if you want to go that route.
