Updates for MFE Syllabus Change in July

February 14th, 2017

As you may be aware, changes are coming to the MFE syllabus beginning with the July exam window.

We are pleased to announce that the TIA seminar for Exam MFE now includes both the lessons for the March syllabus and the lessons for the July syllabus. If you are preparing for March, you will use the lessons and sample exams tabs labeled “March 2017,” and if you are preparing for July or after, use the tabs labeled “July 2017.” Both sets of tabs are available to everyone with access to the MFE seminar.

Some of the lessons for the July syllabus are still under construction. Their availability dates can be seen in the lesson listing on the MFE Lessons page.

    Thanks.
Quick question: In the problems section, is there a way to select all chapters excluding the July 2017 questions. Example: create a mini exam or random problems from only the March 2017 chapters. Don’t seem to be able to select multiple chapters in the filters.

    Appreciate it.

    Hi,

There has been a format change to the Work Problems page since yesterday. I noticed that when I select the unit (G – Stochastic Differential Equations – March 2017 (74)) and the chapter G.1 Stochastic Differential Equations (48), the option to select G.1.1 from the lessons is not there. Actually, none of the G.1 lessons are available to select for the March 2017 syllabus. Yesterday, I was doing these problems just fine, but now I am no longer able to select them.

I also noticed that after each selection I make for Unit, Chapter, and Lesson, there are little toggle-like blurbs re-stating what I have selected. It looks like I am able to select more than one Unit also. I selected G and H from March 2017 syllabus. This is what confirmed to me that there were some type of changes done to the Work problems pages in the last 12 hours (when I was last on the site).

Can you please add back in the G.1 lessons so I may do the work problems. My exam is right around the corner and would like to continue working on these problems. I guess in the meantime, I can go back to the actual lessons themselves and find the G.1 work problems that way.

    Thanks!
    Tiffany D.

There is a way to do this now! The filter on the work problems tab will now allow you to repeatedly use the drop down menus to select multiple sections. In particular, this will allow you to isolate your attention to only the March syllabus sections.

Thanks for pointing this out, I think we have it fixed now!

I have been studying for the March exam syllabus for awhile and had to push back to July instead of sitting in March. I can see that for July more of the FM material has been added back in. Two questions: One, can you briefly say if any material has dropped off from the March syllabus and, if so, what sections? Also, should we plan to use both the BA II and the TI-30XS (these are the two I have I realize there are other options) for the exam now that FM material is included?

Several topics have been removed from the March MFE syllabus. Mainly, everything dealing with Brownian motion and stochastic differential equations has been removed. This includes all of what was section G and also the H.3 lessons in the old version of the seminar. A few other minor topics have also been removed. The most exact way to see what has changed is to compare the syllabus before and after the change. At the time of this post, links to both the March and July MFE syllabuses can be found here:

Regarding the calculators, I personally think the TI-30XS is sufficient for any problems on the new version of exam MFE. However, you should do whatever is most comfortable for you.

Will the normal distribution calculator be provided for July 2017? I am no longer seeing the link to the calculator while working problems, so I thought maybe this is no longer provided?

Yes, it will still be provided. Our team is looking into the issue you are having and will work to get it resolved quickly.

Will the formulas and methods to compute all of the option Greeks be included in these lessons for July 2017 MFE? (it is on the new syllabus, but some study sources do not include all the formulas).

Yes. We have already updated all lessons to reflect the syllabus change. All of the formulas for the option Greeks, along with some helpful memorization tips, can be found in lesson D.2.2.
