COVID-19 April 2020 Update

I’m sure many of you are wondering how the COVID-19 quarantines will affect the June 2020 STAM sitting. The short answer is that we don’t know yet, but if the exam is postponed to October, we will automatically extend everyone’s subscription.

Using the May SOA exams to make a guess, Prometric, the company that administers STAM for the SOA, has canceled the bulk of their May exams. The SOA, on the other hand, has labeled their exams as `essential’ and is trying to work with Prometric to find a way for students to still sit for their exams. The number of exam slots has been reduced to allow more distancing between exam takers, so it seems that the plan is for some students to take the May exams in May, and some to be rescheduled for later.

If the same pattern holds for the June exams, that means that some people will be able to (have to?) take the exam in June, while others will be rescheduled for October. Unfortunately the Prometric announcement re: May exams didn’t come out until 4/23, so I wouldn’t expect any concrete information about the June exams to be released until late May. Studying for exams is hard enough without this uncertainty, and I wish that I could give you more concrete information. I will update the blog with information as I receive it.

Good luck with your studies and stay safe in these trying times.
