Coverage of the upcoming ILA Life Product Management exam

Update: see how the LPM syllabus changed here.

As you know, the name of the Life Pricing (LP) exam will change to Life Product Management (LPM) effective for the fall 2019 sitting. Here is a common question we’ve been getting:

I’m looking to take the new Product Management Exam in Fall 2019. I know that the SOA has not released a syllabus yet, but I would like to get a head start on studying since I recently finished my ASA requirements. I saw on TIA’s ILA Life Pricing page that “We will have the Product Management exam covered for fall 2019”. Does this mean that the course is already released, or is it coming in the future?

We will definitely be covering the LPM exam for the fall 2019 sitting. LPM will replace the LP exam, so we will basically transition that page on our site to refer to the PM exam. Anyone who purchases our current LP course on or after April 1 will be guaranteed access to the LPM course through the fall 2019 exam date. We can’t begin posting any updated materials until after the SOA releases the official syllabus, however. This will most likely happen in early May. Therefore, everything in the currently available course pertains to the current LP syllabus. This will remain true until the SOA posts the new syllabus for LPM.

Given that the name of the exam is changing and given that some of the syllabus objectives are likely to change, it’s reasonable to expect larger-than-normal syllabus changes. However, we have a great deal of experience in syllabus changes since they occur every year. We always do our best to make existing materials available immediately, then begin rolling out new lessons for any newly added syllabus readings as fast as possible while maintaining the high level of quality our customers expect.
