Concept Flashcards update underway

Over the past few exam sittings, there have been more problems that focus on small details of conceptual ideas or vocabulary instead of computations.

Nearly all of these details are included in the video lessons for this course, but it is very hard to keep all of them in mind on exam day.   I think this is in part due to the fact that, while we can practice the computational problems endlessly,  there hasn’t been a good way to “practice” the concept details other than to rewatch the lessons over and over – not an efficient method.

I’ve decided to overhaul the electronic flashcards for this course to provide you with a method for doing concept practice.   I’ve completed section D.1 of the lessons already, and my goal is to complete this project prior to the end of September.

What I am doing is revisiting each lesson, polishing the existing flashcards into a more intelligible question and answer style, and adding additional flashcards to address concepts and details in the lessons that didn’t have a flashcard for them previously.  For section D.1 there are now 40 total flashcards, which I think is a bit less than double the number that there were before.

If you haven’t already, please install the TIA Review app for studying flashcards and give it a go – with these update, you may want to start reviewing flashcards earlier in your study process than you would if you were only using them to memorize a few formulas.  The app includes a filtering mechanism that will allow you to limit your view to only those sections of the course that you have already finished so that you won’t be seeing flashcards that you aren’t ready for until you check those sections in the filter.
